Hope in Sight: Give the Gift of Vision This Giving Tuesday
The Moran Eye Center’s Global Outreach Division is raising funds for the Hope in Sight Retinal Clinic, created by Dr. Akbar Shakoor to serve uninsured and underinsured patients with diabetes and other sight-threatening retinal conditions.
Every second Saturday of the month, at the Midvalley Health Center, Dr. Shakoor and his team care for up to 30 patients per clinic, most of whom are battling diabetic retinopathy—a leading cause of blindness. Using advanced imaging, they monitor and stabilize vision through injections and laser treatments, provide free glasses, and even perform sight-saving surgeries at no cost. In the past three months alone, Dr. Shakoor has performed surgeries for 15 patients, volunteering his time and partnering with industry to cover the cost of medications.
Dr. Shakoor’s anonymous grateful patient has generously pledged to match the first $10,000 donated to our Giving Tuesday campaign. Your gift today will go twice as far—helping us bring hope and healing to those who need it most.
Your gift ensures these patients receive the care they desperately need. Join us this Giving Tuesday and help restore sight and hope.
