Support Utah Law Competition Teams

About

Moot court and our other competition teams at the S.J. Quinney College of Law are a vital component of legal education, offering students an opportunity to sharpen their legal research, writing and oral argument skills while gaining confidence in courtroom procedures. In 2025-2026, 54 students competed in nine competitions, though many more students expressed an interest in joining a team and competing. You can read more about the 2025-2026 teams here.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Utah Law Alum Virginius 'Jinks' Dabney ('72), all gifts to support Utah Law competition teams will be doubled up to $25,000. He credits his success as a trial lawyer to his experience in moot court, and has established the first endowed fund to ensure this program can grow and continue to prepare future lawyers to thrive.

Moot court competitions require our students and coaches to travel, and funding all all competition teams costs the College approximately $75,000 per year. With increased resources, we can expand the number of students who compete. We can also retain and recruit talented faculty and adjunct coaches who are essential to our program’s success.

If competition teams benefited you, we invite you to give back today. Every dollar you give will be doubled to help ensure every talented student has the opportunity to participate—regardless of their circumstances.
